“Amazing week. Love notes from students helping me mark and affirm my work. Sometimes I keep pinching myself that I am actually teaching a method I remain in the process and practice of continual learning. Loudly living my goal-set mantra of speaking the truth and leaving the lies on the floor.” Those were the first few sentences/thoughts I wrote to begin this post back on January 9th. Then I got stuck.
First snow brought crystal clarity of what’s in front and behind… and it was noticeably and primarily thru women…
- Meryl Streep
- Women’s March on Washington planning
- Jody Domerstad Neuroscience article
- Oneika Mays Freedom March Tour
Those were the first few sentences/thoughts I wrote to begin this post back on January 9th. Then I got stuck. As February rolls in, I realize that I had not finished the post. As I look at my bullets of the intended thoughts, and the week’s that lie behind me since the Women’s March, I notice how frozen I have been with words. Politics creeped in so deeply and frighteningly, that it seems to have locked out all my joy at the start of the year. #OrangeDumbFck #TrumpIsSUCHaDumbFck #NotMyPresident seem to be all I have said in words.
It became difficult to express lightness, joy and bring warm, open arms to my movements and help my students find and experience it themselves with the heaviness of heart weighing on us at this point in time. For that I am angry and upset with myself. #Truthspeak
Getting UnStuck
Today, February 3rd, I am turning the page back to the affirmation of my work. Turning the page back to my focus for the year. Back to focus on #Truthspeak and conscious living. Back to loudly living my goal-set mantra of speaking the truth and leaving the lies on the floor.
One of my friends and first Pilates teachers, Elin Benson, left us yesterday after a hard fight with cancer. Elin is a shero of mine. She pushed for excellence in teaching and training and I am grateful for her example in living. I chose to operate as an independent Pilates instructor and studio, 15 years ago, as a result of words she unknowingly shared. #Truthspeak
The other shero’s I will be modeling through the year for reminders of courage are Meryl Streep who showed up to speak up and out at the Golden Globes, for reminders of strength are Jody Domerstad who used neurosculpting to ground and rewire her mind and body back together. #Truthspeak
For reminders of staying mindfully connected in our past and present, Oneika Mays is my shero for taking Freedom Riders bus tour with her parents as our country shifted politically backwards. #Truthspeak

I am proud to have been involved with each of the women that made our presence and voice visible during the global protest with the Women’s March. I recognize that my work as a Pilates teacher and body movement worker is to continue to help strengthen, support, inspire others as a part of a global group of ‘agitators and resistors’ so we all stay on the path. We must keep moving, stay fluid and un-stuck. #Truthspeak
