Very proud and thankful to be included in the mix of non-traditional Pilates teachers that are inspiring others to find and use Pilates for their health and personal fitness regimens. Real people doing really hard work is always an inspiring story. This Pilates Style Magazine article profiled a few of the “rule-breakers.”
Color me giddy about my participation as one of four Pilates teachers, that “broke the traditional mold” in the May-June issue of Pilates Style Magazine. Students, family and friends were equally delighted to read the details, as it helps to solidify the connection and relationship we have with each other. Pilates is good for and to you no matter your size, color, shape or age.
I love being a “rule breaker” or “rule bender.” Turns out, as woman of color and a member of the #Over50 gang, I am just that as a Pilates teacher. And, it seems there are a lot more non-traditionalists coming to the fold. For the most exciting and fulfilling part of participation with this profile article was all the comments and responses I received from other women and men around the world that commented, via social media, how inspired they were with the story.
Putting oneself out there to reveal your own truth is a courageous act, for sure. Hearing the words of how it moved, encouraged or inspired others to walk strongly in their own path is the gift I received in return. In particular, as a woman of color, I am hopeful there will be more conversations and features of the richness we all bring to the table.
After you read the article, I’d love to hear what you think!
