One of my students sent a fabulous email on her way to work this morning. Funny, pointed and good reminder for us all.
“Walking to work minding my business and I run into this! I guess I will be attending class tonight!”

Seeing the images this morning reminded me of a few other Times Square images I filed away back in during a widespread blackout caused by the power grid outage in 2003. The contrasts, I thought were pretty powerful (no pun intended.) Not to mention the expenditure of energy depicted in each of the images.

Not a happy face in the space! But then who the heck could be happy stuck to each other inside a tunnel. Commuting sucks big time! This is why I am reminded how much I love my job teaching and how much I must give to support students who are motivated to exercise after enduring this to get to an evening class.

The “Down Dog” stretch is the best back, leg and calf stretch I know. The last element of a Pilates Mat class and sometimes the first element in a Yoga class.
The sea of bodies in Times Square enjoying this stretch speaks volumes to its worth in practice.
