I am not starting anything new for the coming year; I am just simply planning to continue to refine the work and control the movements. Whether working with my choice of Master Instructors or in my own personal practice, Pilates will always be at the center of my self-maintenance work.
I started the year with Chris Robinson and a two hour apparatus session, using the Reformer, Wunda and Pilates Mat. Forty minutes of advanced Pilates work on each piece of apparatus. Chris is about ten years younger than me, a martial arts practitioner and a solid beautiful mover and teacher. I took the challenge with him, and about 12-15 other teachers across the globe, but in all honesty, I ended up watching the last 20 minutes of matwork rather than finishing with them.
Even though I finished, like a champ, I am acknowledging the fact that I simply like the pace of my work a little slower as well as doing my work a little earlier in the day. As such, I made a conscious move of my bi-monthly private sessions with Brett to an earlier hour going forward into the new year. After 3pm, this #PilatesOver60 body is just plain out of steam, juice and energy. Self-maintenance necessitates that we honor our body’s natural energy, power and rhythm.
I finalized and published the PilatesSistersSquad Virtual Events calendar; a project I built four years ago at the start of the pandemic, as a way of keeping myself mentally and physically connected with other teachers, as we all learned how towork together virtually.
Also solidified my personal #MovementTherapy self-maintenance plan and schedule to continue the bi-weekly, Pilates session training with both Clare Dunphy-Hemani and Brett Howard. To keep my joints mobile and limber I started weekly resistance bodyweight strength training that may include isometrics, yoga, rope, clubs, or balls and a hydrotherapy workout using the steam and pool, while continuing my monthly health maintenance with #Acupuncture sessions with Dr. Loh.
Sounds like a lot, but it’s all consistent and Pilates is at the center and core of every bit of the maintenance plan.
Lastly, I concocted another scrumptious tea infusion blend of Lavender with Vanilla Tea. It’s going to be good year; if the start of the month is any indication of the direction and trajectory of the days to come.
