In Pilates, we focus on alignment and breath, but sometimes, you need a change of scenery to truly feel those principles in action.  During our excursion this past October, we visited two locations that perfectly mirrored the balance we seek in our bodies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u200b\u00d3bidos: Grounding &amp; Stability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We began in the historic town at the Usseira Aqueduct (pictured). Looking at those 16th-century arches, I couldn&#8217;t help but think about the spine\u2014a strong, curved structure designed to support everything else. It transported water from springs in Usseira to the fountains of \u00d3bidos. It has maintained its structure since the 16th century.  Of course, I loved the structure and angles of the image.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Later, we headed to the cliffs of Nazar\u00e9. Standing at the S\u00edtio, looking down at the vast expanse of the Atlantic, felt like a deep, cleansing exhale. This spot is famous for its massive energy and waves, reminding us of the power inherent in nature\u2014and in ourselves. It was a moment of pure decompression, allowing us to return to our practice with the memory or &#8220;lightness&#8221; and &#8220;expansiveness.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u200bMoments of Movement and Mindfulness <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"nfd-container nfd-text-md nfd-wb-text__text-8 wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-346627ba wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"nfd-text-md wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"nfd-max-w-prose wp-block-group is-vertical is-content-justification-left is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-dd225191 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"\">Standing on the cliffs of Nazar\u00e9 overlooking the Atlantic Ocean; inhaling the salt air and watching the endless horizon was the ultimate reset for the nervous system. Definitely a raw power place &#8212; the same energy we try to harness in our practice. It was the perfect backdrop to reconnect with our bodies outside the studio. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We stood atop the <strong>S\u00edtio<\/strong>, the clifftop district that watches over the town. This spot is steeped in the &#8216;Legend of Nazar\u00e9,&#8217; where a knight was miraculously saved from falling off the cliff while hunting in the fog. Today, it\u2019s famous for a different kind of miracle: the <strong>North Canyon<\/strong>. This underwater geological trench funnels massive swells toward the lighthouse (Forte de S\u00e3o Miguel Arcanjo), creating the largest surfable waves on the planet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Even on a calm, sunny day in October, standing on those cliffs gives you a fresh perspective on the power of nature\u2014a perfect theme for our movement journey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/pilates4fitness.com\/virtual\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Nazare.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"is-style-dots wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"nfd-text-md wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"nfd-max-w-prose wp-block-group is-vertical is-content-justification-left is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-dd225191 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u00d3bidos: The Queen&#8217;s Gift<\/strong> Our journey into the past began the moment we spotted the <strong>Usseira Aqueduct<\/strong> (pictured in the arches photo). Built in the 1570s by Queen Catherine of Austria, this 3km architectural marvel is still standing strong today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It sets the tone for \u00d3bidos, a walled city that was traditionally given as a wedding gift to Portuguese queens. Inside the walls, it\u2019s a preservation of history\u2014whitewashed houses, cobblestone streets, and the scent and production of of <em>Ginjinha<\/em> (cherry liqueur).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><br>Chocolate cups with cherry liqueur, one of the region&#8217;s famous sweets, were enjoyed \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div
